A good policy for the protection of patents, the key to a successful transfer of technology

  • Conny Bogentoft, Chief Scientific Officer at Karolinska Development AB, stressed the need to “build bridges between the academic world and the pharmaceutical industry”.
  • Participating in the closing ceremony were José María Roig, Regional Minister of Innovation, Business and Labour of the Government of Navarre; José María Fernández Sousa-Faro, President of ASEBIO, and Carmen Vela, the new President of the Spanish Society of Biotechnology (SEBIOT).

ASEBIO requests the alignement of Spain with the European Union's future strategy of Bioeconomy

  • The Spanish biotechnology sector has taken important steps during recent years and it would be a shame if it were to retreat due to the current economic crisis.
  • The impact of biotechnology in 2010 will represent 1.2% of national GDP according to the Ministry of Science and Innovation, which in 2009 granted this sector 105 million euros in financial aid.

Biospain will host 1,500 business meetings in which more than 600 companies will come together

BioSpain 2010 turns things around with regard to prior events focusing on internationalisation as the main pillar of this year’s event .The 2010 macroeconomic impact of biotechnology already amounts to 1.2% of the Spanish GDP.According to the latest report issued by ASEBIO, the size of the Spanish biotechnology sector has almost doubled, regarding the number of companies, from 2005 to 2008.
